Lynn Gaylord has recently returned to the Del Mar Foundation's board with the sole commitment to see that everyone in Del Mar knows what the Del Mar Foundation does. Some of you might recall Lynn's efforts as president to provide regular news articles regarding the work of the Foundation. In no short order, Lynn has paved the way for the Del Mar Foundation's regular column right here in the Del Mar Village Voice/Carmel Valley News.
There is nothing better than resolving to keep the Del Mar community informed and January is the perfect time to start. I am thrilled to take this opportunity to challenge those of you who might want to become more involved in your community. The Del Mar Foundation would love to have you!
The Del Mar Foundation was founded in 1982 as an outgrowth of the "Del Mar Days" community celebration. For over 25 years our mission has remained the same:
. To promote civic pride and community cohesiveness in the city of Del Mar
. To work to acquire, preserve and protect open space
. To improve beaches and parklands
. To raise and grant funds
. To sponsor di-verse cultural programs and community events in Del Mar

The Foundation is probably best known for the popular summer concerts at Powerhouse Park. But a new door opened for the Foundation in 2004, when the San Dieguito River Park placed a $500,000 restricted endowment with the Del Mar Foundation to support the future maintenance and management of the San Dieguito Lagoon. That initial amount has grown to over $719,000 in just three years, thanks to the expertise of the Foundation's Investment Advisory Committee.

Committed to ensuring that the Del Mar Foundation's mission continues in perpetuity, a visionary Development Committee launched efforts to build a group of founding community endowment investors. The unanimous support and participation of the Del Mar Foundation board has provided a solid start to the Del Mar Foundation Endowment Fund. Our board is always looking for new members interested in dedicating three years to lead the Foundation. Our board meetings are open and held monthly on the second Thursday at the City Annex. Join us!
The "First Thursdays" popular music and lecture series is run by the Cultural Arts Committee of the Del Mar Foundation. This committee plans and organizes lectures and musical events for inside the Powerhouse from September through June. The committee meets once a month on the Wednesday following a "First Thursday" event from 9 - 10:30 a.m. on the Powerhouse balcony. Again, come join in!

If you are interested in the children's programs like the monthly Children's Concerts, Easter Egg Hunt or the Independence Day Parade, these are run by a separate Children's Committee that meets the last Wednesday of each month in the upstairs of the Powerhouse from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m.

The Del Mar Foundation also makes grants to initiate or support activities in the Del Mar community that are consistent with our mission. Grant application deadlines are Feb. 1, June 1 and Oct. 1.

We would love to have you on board. We encourage you to resolve to get involved in your Del Mar community this year.
