Bluegrass heavyweights featured in January Foundation concert
By Lynn Gaylord
The Del Mar Foundation and the San Diego Bluegrass Society join together to bring a very special afternoon of bluegrass music by four instrumental masters to the Del Mar Powerhouse Community Center on January 18, 2004.
Todd Phillips who plays bass is a two-time Grammy winner. David Grier is the three-time IBMA Guitar Player of the Year and Matt Flinner who plays mandolin is the two-time Winfield National Champion. To add to the excitement, the trio will be joined by special guest, fiddler extraordinaire Gabe Witcher.
"Each is a virtuoso capable of reeling off mesmerizing solos- Phillips, Grier & Flinner create a special kind of magic when they play as a band- exquisite," says Associated Press reviewer Eric Fidler.
There will be two concerts. The first will start at 3:00 pm and the second will start at 5:30 pm. Ticketholders are invited to a wine and cheese reception at 4:30 pm. Seating is limited. Ticket price is $15 per concert, $20 at the door if available. Checks may be made out and sent to The Del Mar Foundation, P. O. Box 2913, Del Mar, Ca. 92014. Please specify which concert you wish to attend and how many tickets. Please include a contact telephone number or email address.
These two concerts are sure to sell out so be sure to get your checks in early. Don't wait until after the holidays. It will be too late. Should be a gloriously fun Sunday afternoon in an otherwise dreary month of January. See you there!
