DEL MAR TIMES

Myers to serve as Del Mar Foundation president

By Lynn Gaylord

Active for many years in the Del Mar schools, Barbara Myers will now lead the Del Mar Foundation in the upcoming year for the remainder of her six year term on the Board. Having served as Recording Secretary and also Chair of the Grants Committee, Myers expects to "expand the path we are on and broaden some areas such as teen activities and future endowments."

Barbara and her husband Doug, who is with the Zoological Society of San Diego, moved to Del Mar in 1985 with their daughter Amy who was one year old at the time. Their son, Andrew, was born in 1988. It didn't take long for Barbara to become involved in the community. From an active volunteer in Amy's kindergarten class to room mother to president of the Del Mar Heights PTA, helping to make our schools a better place was just a natural for Barbara. As the children grew, she became involved at Earl Warren Middle School as Site Council President and presently serves on Torrey Pines High School's Dollars for Scholars program.

In November of 1998 Barbara was elected to the Del Mar Union School District Board of Trustees and has served in a variety of capacities including president for two years. Having just facilitated a new government relations team for the school district, she is serving her second term as a board member of the school district. As is readily apparent, stepping up to the plate and leading in our community comes naturally to Barbara Myers and we are indeed lucky to have such talent in our community!

Thank you, Barbara, for your many contributions to the community and your willingness to serve the Del Mar Foundation. We all look forward to the good things which will come.

The Del Mar Foundation board is comprised of fifteen members in the community who each serve a maximum of (2) three-year terms. Commitments are staggered thereby preserving the "tribal wisdom." Carrying out the Foundation's mission with these fifteen board members are members of the Cultural Arts Committee, Investment Advisory Committee, and several others.
