The Cultural Arts Committee of the Del Mar Foundation was formed in late 1999 coinciding with the opening of our beautiful Powerhouse Community Center. The dream of the organizers was to fill the Powerhouse with wonderful music and great lecturers. So was born the idea of "First Thursdays."

Diligently working 10 months of the year to bring a variety of programs to the community, this committee has achieved much more than expected. Besides the 10 - 12 events from September - June, they have also organized evenings at the Summer Pops, Shakespeare in the Plaza, evenings at North Coast Repertory Theatre, Mainly Mozart concerts, and last Sunday's historic Bluegrass Concert with Grammy-award winning quartet Phillips, Greer & Flinner.

"It's just wonderful to be able to do this for the community," commented Chairman Chuck Freebern. "We have quality live entertainment right here in our own little town." And as one committee member was overheard to say, "The waves rolling in, a glass of wine, classical music, stimulating lectures. It just doesn't get better than this."
