by Priscilla L. Fawcett

The evening's entertainment featured instrumentalists Ann Marie Gabriele,
Trevor Handy, Sarah Thornblade, Samuel Formicola and vocalist Jonathan Mack

June 7 marked the climax of the 2006/07 First Thursdays music and lecture series at the Del Mar Powerhouse.

Sponsored by the Cultural Arts Committee of the Del Mar Foundation, the evening featured noteworthy artists Ann Marie Gabriele and Trevor Handy, with vocal and string accompaniment, all members of elite musical communities in Los Angeles.

The event celebrated a tapestry of harmonies, from the lyrical precision of Ludwig van Beethoven to assorted works by Ralph Vaughn-Williams with the voice of tenor Jonathan Mack and oboist Gabriele, followed by the minor keys and disparate registers of composer George Crumb and ended with haunting notes by Benjamin Britten.
