The Del Mar Foundation Children’s Committee presented a Halloween Spooktacular on Friday October 14th. It was the 1st bonfire in Del Mar in many years. The event brought the Del Mar Hills & Heights schools together for an evening of community unity.
The evening was kicked off with a bang, when the Del Mar Fire Department lit a torch to start the bonfire as Del Mar children looked on eagerly to see the flames rise high above the sand pit. The Del Mar Lifeguards and the Fire Department could be seen in the shadow of the fire, watching over everything to ensure the crowd’s safety. As the flames lit up the beach, it set the scene for “The Paper Bag Cowboy”, Charles Johnson, to engage the crowd in spooktacular Halloween stories and sing-alongs. Once the crowd was adequately thrilled and chilled, families from both schools connected and gathered around six individual camp fires located along the beach. There they roasted marshmallows, ate s’mores and shared their own spooktacular stories.
Many thanks to the Del Mar Lifeguards, Fire Dept. and community services for helping us create a safe event for our families.
