Del Mar's July Fourth Decorated Bike Parade
from the Del Mar Times | July 11, 2008 issue

The Del Mar Foundation sponsored its Sixth Annual July 4 Decorated Bike Parade on the Fourth of July at Powerhouse Park. Mayor Dave Druker and members of Del Mar's City Council, Richard Earnest, Carl Hilliard, Deputy Mayor Crystal Crawford, and Henry Abarbanal served as Grand Marshals. "Uncle Sam" Tom McGreal served as flag bearer as hundreds of children proudly marched around Powerhouse Park to live patriotic music supplied by "Hullabaloo", featuring Steve Denyes on guitar and Brendan Kremer on the box drum.

Lisa Lutz and Kim Filanc served as Co-Chairs of the 2008 parade. Following the parade, Master of Ceremonies Bill Michalsky announced the many catagories for which ribbons were awarded, including best bike, scooter, wagon, decorated dog, hat and costume for various age groups. The children were treated to lemonade and cookies, and members of the Del Mar Fire Department gave tours of the fire engine, and passed out fire hats.
