The DESERT ROSE BAND
in a special all-acoustic reunion performance

Desert Rose Band

November 2, 2012

The Desert Rose Band, formed in 1985 by The Byrds founding member Chris Hillman, established itself as a group fiercely loyal to country music but not afraid to make it their own with a fusion of bluegrass and California country rock.

The DRB stayed at the top of the country charts with a string of hits beginning with the Johnnie & Jack cover "Ashes of Love." Chris Hillman penned the group's smash hits, "Love Reunited," "Summer Wind," "One Step Forward," "I Still Belive in You," and "Start All Over Again." The Academy of Country Music named them Touring Band of the Year for three consecutive years (1988-1990), and they received two Grammy nominations and three from the Country Music Association.

"...[FS&DK's] performance took me completely by surprise with its raw energy.... Alan Lomax famously called bluegrass "folk music on overdrive" and after Frank Solivan's performance, I'd have to whole-heartedly agree. - Devon Leger, No Depression

JOHN JORGENSON QUINTET

January 18, 2010

2010 marks the 100th birthday of the great Django Reinhardt. In celebration, the Del Mar Foundation presents The John Jorgenson Quintet, the only American act to ever headline the prestigious Django Reinhardt Memorial Festival in France.  For the films "Gattica" and "Head in the Clouds" Jorgenson was tapped to recreate Django's music, and in the latter he appeared onscreen as Django with Charlize Theron and Penelope Cruz.

Adding to the international nature of the Quintet are Dutch bassist Simon Planting and British rhythm guitarist Kevin Nolan, along with the prodigious young jazz violinist Jason Anick and veteran percussionist Rick Reed. Together, they create a sound that is equally dynamic, romantic, driving, melodic and accessible.
