Rob Ickes, 15-time IBMA Dobro Player of the Year, dubbed Del Mar “the Nashville of the West” because of Bluegrass and Beyond’s longevity and success. Launched in 2004 at the Del Mar Powerhouse Community Center, the inaugural performance on January 18, 2004 featured acclaimed instrumentalists Todd Phillips, David Grier, Matt Flinner, and Gabe Witcher. Bluegrass and Beyond performances now take place in Town Hall, taking advantage of its larger capacity and the architect’s careful attention to the hall’s acoustics.
